Best of Thailand - Krabi & Bangkok 2009

Since my return from the 9 day Thailand getaway, I've been busy at work despite it being the holiday season and the typical time where everyone tries to clear their leave. Hence, I haven't had time to really update the blog on the trip.

First sunset on Ao Nang, Krabi

Five days in Krabi was definitely what I needed. Just lazing by the resort pool, bumming and sun tanning on the lovely Ao Nang & Railay beach, snorkeling, island hopping, sunset watching, beer drinking and doing your typical touristy stuff...

Went for a full day sea cave kayaking expedition which brought back those good old memories from my canoeing days in junior college. Water was calm and the scenery just oozed off this peaceful vibe within. Paddling thru the canyons and navigating thru the dark limestone caves with my guide away from civilisation. The only sound you hear - the sound of nature and the calm water splashing off the paddle blade.

Crystal clear waters of Phra Nang Beach

The final stop my guide brought me to was this natural lagoon. Simple magical this place - imagine being surrounded by giant cliffs surround this lagoon, the sunlight falling on one side and casting a shadow on the other. The sound of cicadas and the occasional rustling of branches from monkeys swinging from tree to tree. The closest I can relate this to will probably have to be the lagoon screen from the movie, The Beach, if you even recall what it looked like.

Taking a break = photo time!

Went on several tours which brought us to visit the natural Hot Spring, Emerald Pool and climbing 1237 steps to the top of the Tiger Temple. Elephant trekking was fun too. I had one elephant all to myself and the trainer got me ride the elephant solo for some time.

Yup, 1237 steps to the top...

After 1237 steps... the top of the Tiger Temple

Food... in 4 simple words - I love Thai Food! Tom Yam, the smell of lemon grass, fresh seafood and all those spices that goes into it. I'm glad the needle didn't move on the scale after getting back... the result of striking a balance between all that eating and walking about! Phew!

Ok, DIY manicure time!!! Got an NYE gathering at a family friend's place this evening, followed by the REAL party at a friend's place! Goodbye 2009 and hello 2010!

I'll update on the Bangkok portion another time. Till then, Happy New Year to all...
