The wisdom tooth

So I woke up on Sunday morning only to be greeted by a terrible toothache around the lower 2nd molar tooth area. Not to mention, it stayed with me for the rest of the day and the pain just got worse.

Initially I thought it was just due to my bad habit of biting my teeth in my sleep. But after 24 hrs of continuous pain, you know there's something definitely wrong (took me a lil' long to realise). Gave myself one more day, thinking I could sleep it off, boy was I wrong. Somehow I actually managed to pull myself out to bed and dragged myself to work despite the pain! Sometimes I amaze myself...

Called the dentist to make an emergency appointment but they were fully booked and asked if I could come in on Friday. I was desperately trying to explain to the dental receptionist that I was in terrible pain and I needed a dentist pronto! Surely they couldn't make me wait till Friday, that would be inhumane! Anyway, lucky me indeed, the receptionist called me back coz someone had their 7pm appointment cancelled so I grabbed it. Seeing the state of pain I was in (I was pretty pale by this time), my sister offered to accompany me there.

Got an X-ray done and you guessed it right, bloody wisdom tooth decided it was time to make its presence known. It did a good job alright...with a hefty price to go along as well! I should have listened to my childhood ambition and become a dentist! Anyway, the extraction was not as straight forward coz not only was it growing sideways, half the tooth was still embedded under the gums!!! So yes...wisdom tooth surgery on the spot. *trembles*

Apart from the 45mins of injecting, drilling, pressing, pulling and plucking and the fact my tooth finally came out in 4 pieces, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Well that was until the anesthesia wore off... At least the dentist was really nice. She kept talking me through the entire procedure, making sure I was fine coz I had this mask around my eyes. It did ease the nervousness a little.

So yes, one wisdom tooth out. Now a puffer fish face with 3 stitches in her mouth and on a liquid diet. I think gastric is starting to set in. =(
